The Group Analytic Seminars (GRAS) founded in 1977 by Michael Lukas Moeller with the help of Siegmund H. Foulkes and the Institute of Group Analysis London trained in the last 40 years nearly 500 psychoanalysts and psychotherapists in group analysis. One third (173) came back to GRAS to attend further seminars after graduation in small groups of group analysts without leader. These autonomous groups are a feature of GRAS, which cannot be understood without knowing more about the founder Michael Lukas Moeller, his development and his engagement for self-help groups. His motivation and the history of the institute will be described as well as the differences between autonomous and led training groups, their relationship and their integration into the seminar structure. The development of the Institute GRAS e. V. based on the leadership of a small group of autonomous members shows the large confidence of the founder in the organizational capabilities of small groups and the encouragement to develop new methods within group analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
