This article reports that Geac, once a major player in the North American library automation market but all but invisible in recent years, is trying to position itself for a comeback. The company has been enjoying success in the European market with its Vubis Smart system (132 sales to date) and is gearing up to regain some of its lost territory in the United States and Canada. Geac's Ellen Isaacson said that the firm is focusing on public and small academic libraries and has signed a contract for Vubis Smart with the Kingston PL, ON. She realizes that "competition is stiff" in North America but said that Geac will launch a campaign around Vubis this year.
