Chackupurackal Mathai, project director of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Transitions Grant Center for Practice Innovations, has been named Advocate of the Year by the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law. Mathai has been honored for his work in protecting and advancing the rights of people with psychiatric disabilities. "Your tireless advocacy on behalf of people with psychiatric disabilities, and particularly those who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color. We want to recognize your contributions to advancing peer support services that reflect the core values of the peer movement and to ensuring that mental health services are inclusive and meet the needs of communities of color," the Bazelon Center stated.
