The article focuses on the support that the militia in the Niger Delta gained after the incident when soldiers of the Joint Task Force, a contingent of the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, ambushed 15 members of the MEND (Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta) militia and murdered them. It reports that the Ijaw, the largest ethnic group in the Niger Delta gathered in the burial ceremonies of those murdered and spoke only of heroes who had fallen in the battle for Ijaw liberation. It reports that FNDIC (Federated Niger Delta Ijaw Communities) officials hope that the government do not attempt to generate turbulence in the Niger Delta during the April 2007 general elections.
