The article reports on the different courses and elective offerings of the Computer Science department of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. It states that the department creates a course, which students can use the International Business Machine (IBM) Corp. Cell processors found in Sony Playstation 2 machines for scientific computing applications and to learn high-performance computing. According to Dennis Kafura, a computer science professor at Virginia Tech, the biggest contributor of the program is its interdisciplinary collaboration, which covers everything from life sciences, creative arts and design and engineering.
