The article focuses on the modeling system Atmosphere-Land Exchange Inverse (ALEXI) to be used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for generating evapotranspiration (ET) estimates over the U.S. Developed by scientists at the Agricultural Research Service(ARS) Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory, it says, ET will be used of drought mapping through root-zone soil moisture measurements. It also notes the surface temperature-based technique for ET estimates.
