The article explains how Southern United States will play a major role in producing biofuels due to its long growing seasons. It highlights three feedstocks as the focus of the research efforts, namely the Energy Cane which is derived by cross cultivating sugarcane with wild grassy species to yield better biofuel production, the Napier grass which is drought tolerant and grows well on marginal lands, and the sweet Sorghum which contains soluble sugar that can be fermented directly into biofuel.
