Together, we are making history today. We manage to contain the spread of the coronavirus by consenting to measures which represent the most-far reaching curbs to personal freedom ever introduced in peace time. We face fears and uncertainties which we have never experienced before, not even our grandparents or great-grandparents. Even the oldest among them have no recollections of the Spanish flu in 1918, a pandemics which until recently was considered to be the end of an era of epidemics in Europe. Our knowledge of infectious diseases has improved enormously ever since. Nevertheless, the way we cope with the corona virus suggests parallels with earlier pandemics and the way in which these were perceived and contained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
