Alongside the LifE study initiated by Helmut Fend, the Swiss TREE study (Transitions from Initial Education to Employment) is one of the few long-term panel studies collecting data on educational and occupational trajectories over several decades. This synopsis of various TREE analyses shows how (educational) institutional settings, sequential path dependencies as well as personal (especially cognitive) and family resources affect observed life trajectories in the long run. The results highlight that young people are often unable to realize their full potential, partly as a result of the stratification of the Swiss education system, which seems to foster strong and cumulative path dependencies. They also emphasise the extent and the consequences of the strong gendering of Switzerland’s education and employment trajectories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
