Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services, in partnership with the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO), has been working to improve the sexual health of the Yarrabah community. They have focused on education, screening, and providing access to resources within the community. Overcoming social stigmas has been a challenge, but the team has been successful in destigmatizing testing and care for infections, leading to increased testing and reduced hesitancy to practice safe sex. The organization has also increased access to condoms and lube by installing dispensers throughout the community. While the long-term impact is still being determined, early figures indicate a positive impact on the younger members of the community. Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services' work, supported by NACCHO and ACCHOs, has significantly improved the sexual health of the Yarrabah community and is part of a broader effort to address health inequities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.
