A biography of Frédéric Passy, co-winner of the first Nobel Peace Prize awarded in 1901, is presented. Passy was considered the ideal type of peace advocate described in the will of Nobel Prize founder Alfred Nobel. Passy was a liberal economist, member of the French Chamber of Deputies and advocate of social and educational reform. His commitment to peace served as his guiding principle. A pacifist, Passy provided the catalyst for the expansion of the peace movement in France.
