In "Southern Vietnam under the Reign of Minh Mang", Choi Byung Wook deals with the process of formation as well as its structure of Southern Vietnam during the first half of the nineteenth century. The first part examines the struggle between the centrifugal tendency of the local authority led by Le Van Duyet and the central Court of Minh Mang which resulted in the former's defeat. In the second part, the author highlights the new face of this area under Minh Mang's policies on culture, foreigners and economics, which led to a number of considerable transformations in the country.
