This article discusses a study which investigated the errors committed by rural students while learning English as their second language at the undergraduate collegiate level of Madurai District in Tamilnadu, India. Researchers collected data from various sources such as questionnaires, students' test papers, and class discussions. They learned that the learners' errors are due to the interference of mother tongue and lack of knowledge in the target language.
