Evaluation of Farm Advisory Model in Turkey according to Work and Occupational Ethics

INTRODUCTION[|]This study aims to evaluate the work and occupational ethics aspects of the profession of the 'Agricultural Advisory Model' initiated with the 'Regulation of Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services (2006)' to provide a pluralistic structure of extension services. Ethics in the workplace has been evaluated by taking into account the fields of 'work ethics' and 'occupational ethics'. The research was conducted qualitatively.[¤]METHODS[|]In this context, the research data were collected by semi-structured focus group interviews with 27 agricultural advisors selected according to the decision sampling method from 9 provinces of the Southeastern Anatolia Region. Qualitative data were evaluated according to the descriptive and content analysis method.[¤]RESULTS[|]In this study, the unethical behaviors and practices that agricultural consultants, who provide services to farmers and provide communication between the stakeholders of the model, in terms of business and management ethics in the agricultural consultancy model were determined. Some of those; advisors have to do some work outside of their job descriptions, some of the managers of chamber and farmer organizations intervene in the advisors's field of duty, the consultant has problems in accessing the tools and equipment to perform his duty, the advisors are very low compared to their colleagues in the public or private sector and in most institutions the fees are limited to support for the payment of agricultural extension and advisory services of the state.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]Advisors demand improvement of their personal rights and working under fairer conditions compared to their colleagues doing equivalent work.[¤]
