The case of a feminine reading room inaugurated in the public library in Porto, Portugal, shortly after the Second World War ended, is analysed. Some local historical context is provided to allow for a situated interpretation of this case. Two biographies are presented: one for Virgínia de Castro e Almeida, the women after whom the room was named, another for Túlia Dulce Machado Martins the legator of collection offered to readers upon the room's opening. Some data are provided as to what kind of books were available and who were the women who used this room.
