As of 1 January 2014, a new set of EU programmes for education, training, youth, sport, the audio-visual sectors, culture, EU aid volunteers and citizenship have been launched. The main activities of the previous programmes continue (learning mobility, cooperation projects and support for policy reform), and activities are strengthened where the systemic impact is strongest and where there is a clear EU added value. The new Erasmus+ Programme brings together all EU and international schemes for education, training, youth and sport, replacing seven existing programmes: the Lifelong Learning Programme, Youth in Action, and five international cooperation programmes (Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, Alfa, Edulink and the programme for cooperation with industrialised countries). It also includes Sport. This streamlined structure aims to increase efficiency, to simplify application rules and procedures, and to make it easier to apply for grants, also avoiding duplication and fragmentation
