L'A. illustre les différentes règles d'algorithme utilisées pour le calcul des racines carrées et cubiques par les auteurs italiens du 13e au 16e siècle, jusqu'à celles utilisées actuellement et introduites par P. Cataneo et R. Bombelli. Il donne une vue d'ensemble des règles d'approximation utilisées par ces auteurs.
