This contribution deals with the decisions made between 1998 and 2013 and the realized activities in the field of preservation on a national level in Germany. Regarded are the different requirements of archives and libraries as well as the deviated processes. In the focus are the technical solutions to preserve the original copy like mass deacidification and automated paper splitting and the contractual frameworks. The contribution ends with a short look concerning further possible activities.
