The Project on Chinese Dialects and Regional Culture is an investigation into Chinese dialects and their relation to regional culture. This paper presents a review of the project's final report Chinese Dialects and Regional Culture (5 vols., edited by Shoji Hirata) published by its research group. An analysis of the report and discussion of the project's approach to the research concludes that this investigation has established a solid foundation, and promising new direction for future research into Chinese language and dialects.
