Le mouvement liturgique à l'intérieur de l'Eglise Episcopalienne américaine trouve ses origines dans la doctrine de William Palmer Ladd (1870-1941). L'A. se propose d'étudier l'un et l'autre pour montrer combien le second a influencé le premier. Il montre aussi l'impact du renouveau liturgique catholique d'origine bénédictine dans ces affaires par le biais de Ladd qui a fourni aux Episcopaliens des catégories nouvelles pour exprimer leur liturgie.
