L'installation du pouvoir nazi a considérablement altéré les structures de l'information scientifique et technique allemande: en particulier, les publications étrangères qui alimentent la recherche n'ont plus été à cette époque accessibles au public. A cette époque, les universités technologiques ont été promues au détriment des universités d'enseignement général: les recherches industrielles étaient passées en tête des préoccupations.
