Novice teachers often lack the necessary skills to improve student learning outcomes. Many new teachers commonly face challenges due to new teacher attrition and retention, poorly constructed teacher induction programs, challenges with school climate, and few opportunities for relevant professional development and support. Furthermore, new teachers commonly lack instructional skills, especially with student collaboration, which ultimately affects the success of their students due to the lack of relevant professional development and support provided. When novice teachers feel supported and are provided with ongoing meaningful professional development, they have a greater sense of self-efficacy, resulting in increased attrition and retention. This dissertation project investigated the effectiveness of ongoing professional development support designed for novice teachers focusing on student-to-student collaboration strategies. A fishbone diagram, driver diagrams, and plan, do, study, and act cycles were used to collect data and inform decisions. Professional development attendance, TeachFX software data, and a Pre-Post Scale Survey on teacher efficacy were used to measure the project's effectiveness. Following the study, recommendations were presented to the school and district administration concerning its new teacher induction program and ongoing novice teacher support. When new teachers are provided with targeted professional development and support to enhance their instructional practices in the classroom, they have a greater sense of self-efficacy, resulting in increased attrition and retention.
