In the 1980s, a debate began within some actors and associations of the homosexual movement whether to call for same-sex marriage or a diversity of life forms. The article focuses on a text by the feminist Jutta Oesterle-Schwerin, who vehemently opposed same-sex marriage. Oesterle-Schwerin formulated a vision of a legal recognition of the diversity of life forms. This can be read as a critique of gender binary marriage and thus as an attempt to achieve a recognition of different of life and their legal protection that are not bound to categories of gender or sexuality.
