Since the oldest times, humans have been dealing with the phenomenon of time, as the experience of time is a fundamental element both of human existence and of the sciences, of art, of religion, indeed of culture anyway. However, there is no common idea of what time is. The conception of time varies according to the society-specific mode of perception. To trace down the connection between time and society, the purpose of this study is to analyse different types of time (boss time, cyclical time, linear time, accelerating time) in the societal context and to investigate in how far they follow any ›natural structure‹ given in the world or in how far they are intellectual constructs becoming manifest by different ideas of time. In this context, also aspects of the subjective experience of time and possibilities of time-related acting are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
